We need a venue for our Pagan Pride Day! We are avidly looking for a place to host our Pagan Pride Day 2009. The venue must be available at either no charge or for a very small fee. Due to circumstances out of our control we have no money for this years event so we can't afford to pay for a venue. If you have any ideas as to where we can host our PPD please contact us we would love to hear your ideas. So far we have discussed the park strip, but that usually costs and as I said we have no money. Then we discussed driving around town and finding empty lots that needed to be cleaned up, where we could contact the property owner and offer to clean the lot for the use of it for one day. However, we don't have enough volunteers willing to do this, so this idea has been sitting on the back burner. Next a volunteer said we should ask the Library if we could use their lawn, this idea was greeted with great enthusiasm and we are awaiting the answer from the Library. In the meantime we would love to hear any suggestion or ideas you have, just shoot us an email and we will happily talk to you about it. For information on how to volunteer, click on the What You Can Do link above. We would love to hear from you about your ideas, suggestions, and comments, you can contact us by clicking on the Contact Us above. Do you know anyone who would like to sponsor Anchorage Pagan Pride?

APPI'S GOALS There will be no pointed hats, boiling caldrons or black cats to be found at the next annual Pagan Pride Day. We will be wearing our usual mundane garb, and working on dispelling the misconceptions surrounding paganism in our community. Our Pagan Pride Day is one of more than two hundred that will happen next year, thanks to the hard work of the people at International Pagan Pride Project based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Pagan Pride Project, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that supports the education and advancement of religion, we strive each year to promote religious tolerance through activism, education, and community networking. We hope that by introducing our faith to the community we live in, we will be able to eliminate prejudice and discrimination of religious beliefs. We believe that every voice in our community is important and deserves to be heard. Pagan Pride Day offers a public place where Pagans, and those of other faiths can communicate, and unite for the good of the community. Our goal is to make communication about our beliefs as extensive and accurate as possible, and to listen to feedback from our local communities about our events. Our ethics are based on our concern for ecology, personal responsibility, and individual freedom, and we feel strongly called to actions of social responsibility. This is why at every event we take donations for local charities. Usually the charities are the local food bank, and the women’s shelter, for which we collect non-perishable food items and clothing, bedding, and bath accessories (for more information on what to donate please contact the board chair listed above). Our charity drives allow us to share our harvest with others in need, and highlight our similarity to other faiths in our community. It also gives us a sense of Pride when we hand over the barrels of food and clothing to the organizations that are working in and for our very own community. Each year we invite people from all different backgrounds, and religions to come and share their stories, and lives with us. We offer in return information about our backgrounds and our religion, as well workshops, vendors, and charity drives. We also have a public ritual that can include one faith or many, each showing their own diverse cultures and traditions. As pagans, we follow a variety of pre-christian, aboriginal and tribal religions, including Wicca, Shamanism, Druidism, and Asatru. We respect individual spiritual beliefs and backgrounds, and we will not recruit or force our faiths upon anyone. We recognize the importance of spirituality in everyday life; we know how personal each spiritual path is, and therefore we will not attempt to persuade anyone to follow a path that does not work for them. If you or your group or organization would like to be a part of this event please contact the board chair listed below. Greatest Blessings
