Our community has been hosting a Pagan Pride event for some years now, and while each event has been successful, there has been something lacking, something that has been in the community all this time but has not ever been incorporated into the event. That something is the diverse cultures and paths that are here in our very own community. Up until now Pagan Pride Day in Anchorage has been for the most part one sided. One group has gotten together and planned and organized the event for all of the community, generally leaving out other groups who may have benefited from the event. This is unacceptable, we believe that every voice in our community is important and deserves to be heard. From this point on we will attempt to make communication between all paths and groups as extensive and accurate as possible among every group in our community. We will listen to feedback from every group or individual in our community and we will make adjustments as necessary. While we understand and expect differences among groups of our Pagan community, we cannot allow this to separate us from our goal to fight prejudice and discrimination. We are not referees and will not be pulled into local disputes. On Pagan Pride Day, and in the planning of its events, we will not be involved in disputes of any kind, we will PROUDLY rise above differences of opinion and stand united and show the world that we are PROUD TO BE PAGAN. If you, or your group have had difficulties in the past being heard we ask that you contact a Board Member and discuss your concerns privately. (All communications between you and any Board Member will be confidential.) Each Board Member has sworn to be neutral and to listen to all ideas and concerns voiced from the entire community. It is our goal to have each group, path, and tradition in the Pagan community represented at the 2009 Pagan Pride Day. If this means that we will have to put barriers or walls between them then we will do just that. We are open to your comments and suggestions on how we can bring the entire Pagan Community together to make this one day event a huge success. Anchorage Pagan Pride now has its own 501(c) 3 status, and has also registered with the State of Alaska as a Corporation. We still operate under the National Pagan Pride blanket, and we still follow the guidelines set by National. But we now have a Board of Directors, who will be responsible for the business part of Anchorage Pagan Pride. A planning committee will be responsible for the execution of the event, which means the Board of Directors will be available for advice, and information and will only be making decisions on the planning when absolutely necessary. The goal of the Board is to have at least one planning coordinator from each path, group, and tradition. |
